Hey everybody!
Hopefully you've all been staying warm over the last few weeks. Although it's been a pretty mild winter compared to some years past (remember 2015?), it's been pretty chilly. We haven't gotten a ton of snow, but there has been enough to worry about the occasional ice dam forming and some possible flooding in your basements if you're not careful.
If you can believe it, spring is just about one month away and it will be time to start up all of those maintenance projects you've been waiting to tackle. Here are some things to keep in mind when making that list:
Gutters - If you get ice dams in winter, it may be because you're gutters are clogged. Make sure they are free and clear of leaves and other debris - it will work wonders on your homes maintenance budget!
Filters/Vents - Scheduling regular changing and cleaning of your vents and filters is important. Use the first of a month, or the first day of a new season to clean your dryer vent, change your air filters in your heating system and central AC, and clean out your bathroom vents if you can.
Driveways - Harsh winters and lots of ice and rock salt can cause your driveways to crack and erode. Look for cracks and get them sealed up to prevent worse damage (and having to spend more money).
Decks and siding - A power washer is your friend! Take some time to really clean off your decks, patio furniture that you left out over the winter and the vinyl siding of your home. Keeping the grime and salt off of those surfaces will help keep your home looking great and helps prevent damage and cracking to a wooden deck.
There are many ways to help keep maintenance costs down around the house. These few things will go a long way in that process.
If I can ever be of any service to you in the buying or selling of a home, please don't hesitate to reach out. Here's to warmer weather!
